Discovering West Jefferson, Ohio
Although it was originally named New Hampton, the Village of West Jefferson was laid out going all the way back to 1831. Within a couple years, however, town officials established a post office there and gave it the new name.
West Jefferson is located in Madison County, which is west of Columbus. The village has a population of about 4,300 and sits along U.S. Route 40. Today, residents and village officials maintain a close relationship with the surrounding township, which is Jefferson Township. This includes numerous neighborhoods that are beyond the official corporation limit like Forrest Lake Estates, Haymarket Road, Olmstead Road, North and South Road, Goodson Road/Enchanted Valley, and more. On its western edge, West Jefferson also has a commerce park.
