Why is My Furnace Leaking?

Nov 5, 2019

Is there a leak coming from your furnace? Don’t let this issue grow into a significant problem!  A furnace that’s leaking water can cause mold to arise. It can cause drain clogging and permanent damage to your precious furnace system.

Your Condensation Drain Might Be Clogged

The extra water doesn’t have anywhere to go when your drain is clogged up. The drain will get full, flow onto the condenser pipe, and then overflow. The drain is connected to the floor where it can be emptied itself. Usually, high-efficiency gas furnaces have this dilemma.  The less efficient furnace with a metal dispense pipe should never be leaking. If it does commence to leak water out from the metal pipe, it could mean you have the incorrect size pipe. It will then move back up into the furnace and leak out.

Secondary Heat Exchanger Broken

If the heat exchanger fails, it could cause severe problems. It could destroy your unit, and then a professional will need to take a look at it. Eventually, this could leave you needing to buy an entirely new system. And that’s one headache no one wants this time of year.

A Furnace Humidifier Issue

The main concern when having a leak in your humidifier is when it’s leaking inside your furnace. When having a furnace tune-up or an SMA with our company, it’s harder to have this problem because the system gets it’s much-needed annual checked. A leak this big could cause a lot more damage though as well if not taken care of swifter.

Internal System Clog

This is more for the residences that have a combined air conditioning unit and furnace drain. If the drain is previously clogged from your furnace, you will have the same issue when you go to turn your furnace unit on.
