Knowing the age of your air conditioner is important for homeowners. This is because a well-maintained air conditioner can last anywhere between 15-20 years. So, if you suspect your AC might not be working as well as it used to, finding out its age now can help you make well-informed decisions about repairs or replacement – not to mention keep you from being blindsided. Don’t worry; if you have misplaced your paperwork on your cooling unit, we have a couple of steps to guide you. Here are some tips from your heating and cooling professionals at Grove City Heating & Air.
Step 1: The Condenser
To start, we need to go outside and locate your condenser. The condenser is the large metal box typically found in the backyard or on the side of the house. Once you have located it, look for the nameplate on the side of the condenser. This nameplate should have all of the AC’s information on it. Now scan the upper right corner for the manufacture date. If it’s not there, try looking in the general area at the top of the nameplate. Usually, the manufacture date should be listed as “MFR DATE” or something along those lines. If you still can’t find it, we can try our hand at our investigative skills a little further by moving on to step two.
Step 2: The Web
Go ahead and write down the model, brand, and serial number found on the nameplate. You can take a picture of it as well to make it easier. Once you have this information, type all three details into any search engine and add “manufacture date” to the end before hitting the search button. With some luck, you should have several websites populated that will provide detailed instructions on decoding the manufacture date for your particular AC model. Congrats! You did some detective work and remained determined. By now, you should know the exact age of your air conditioner.
HAVING TROUBLE STILL?
Stay optimistic! Sometimes determining the precise manufacturing date can pose a challenge. However, we’re here to assist you. You can find out the age of your AC during your next seasonal HVAC check with the help of any of our well-trained technicians.
