The Christmas Tree

Commencing as soon as Halloween is over and staying sometimes as late as Valentine’s Day, that beloved family Christmas tree takes up a big space in our homes and place in our hearts. For most families around the world, they are a Christmas must. If you are a champion of the Christmas spirit and a lover of the Christmas tree, here are some tips to keeping your place clean.

  1. Christmas trees, primarily ones that came from the earth, are messy. In addition to all those pesky pine needles all over your home, having a real tree can promote the growth of mold. While mold can be found in various parts of your home without you even knowing, mold particularly grows near the tree. The longer it’s inside, the worse, too. If you customarily keep the Christmas tree up for longer than a few weeks, it’s best to utilize a synthetic one. Fun Fact: Some homeowners develop “Christmas Tree Syndrome” and don’t know they have it, or understand that it is the cause of certain symptoms! “Christmas Tree Syndrome” creates watery eyes, and itching nose, and even chest pain mimicking that of a cold. If you or someone in your home struggles with these symptoms while your live tree is up, it’s a good notion to go with a synthetic tree. Who knows, you might feel better.
  2. Getting a humidifier installed is another healthy idea, especially this time of year. Humidifiers further filter the air and prevent it from drying out. On top of that, they can also inhibit the growth and development of mold, especially in and around your walls. Lastly, they can eliminate pollen floating around while promoting your tree’s health.

Cleaning Those Decorations

Household Christmas decorations are a huge part of the holiday season, inside and out. They’re everywhere this time of year. So when you decide to decorate your home for Christmas, here are some approaches that help should help you this year and for Christmas in years to come.

  1. That bright and beloved Christmas tree, for most, is the most meaningful decoration you establish inside your home all year. If you favor utilizing an authentic tree grown from the local earth, you’d be wise to recognize a couple of precautions before transporting it inside from Mother Nature. For one, you will need to be sure to spray it down thoroughly with some water. To make this happen, you should prep it before it gets too cold. Once you’ve sprayed it down and cleaned it off a bit, shake it vigorously. Doing this will go a great way in knocking off anything that could still be attached to the tree, or about to come off. Trust us; you don’t want all that material inside your living spaces.
  2. After Christmas has passed, soon it’ll be time to pack it all up, or throw it out, and store your beloved decorations. Just remember, as you package all this stuff up for storage, make certain the boxes you use get sealed airtight. If moisture gets inside, it becomes trapped, and it can depreciate or ruin your decorations.
  3. Finally, have a final inspection. Some of your decorations will demand to be wiped down, some dusted off, and unfortunately, some will need to be thrown out in the trash. Just make sure you’ve dried them all off. Keeping them clean is vital concerning your ductwork. If your ducts do end up becoming dirty, it affects how your unit will run. If you suspect this is already the case, call one of our friendly HVAC pros, who can keep your vents clean during the holidays and all year round.

KEEPING THE KIDS BUSY

Paper Snowflakes

Attempting to come up with a neat project for the kids this holiday season? Is the freezing weather keeping them indoors? Are their school closings the reasons they are at home all day? Are they “bored” or declaring there’s nothing to do?

Paper Snowflakes Crafts!

  1. Obtain some square sheets of paper, or cut your own to size.
  2. From corner to corner, fold the papers to make a clean triangle.
  3. Once that is done appropriately, cut some slits out in the sides of the folds.
  4. Finally, unfold the paper to see your novel creation!

Popsicle Christmas Trees!

  1. Gather together at least ten clean popsicle sticks, some hot glue, paint, and some string.
  2. Take one of the ten popsicle sticks, and place it away uncut and at its original length. Take the leftover sticks and cut each one a little, then a little more each time until the last one is the smallest.
  3. Now take that longest one and paint it brown all around. This is your trunk. Paint all the shorter ones green — solid green.
  4. Once the paint becomes dry, place each green stick onto the brown stick, starting with the longest one and moving your way down until the shortest stick attached, and it forms a tree shape.
  5. Finally, once the glue holds dry, utilize more of the glue to create a loop on the back to hang to the tree. Once that has dried, it is ready to hang!
